The 64 year old Arthur Lawrence Tate of El Cerrito disappeared after leaving Anchor Bay campgrounds in a small boat at 11 15 a m He was found three hours later in the Pacific Ocean near Anchor Bay by Jack Swartz owner of a Gualala service station His boat was not recovered and authorities had no further details The body was taken to Ormsbee Mortuary in Point Arena.

Fire on Cow Mountain controlled after 800 acres burned
The Cow Mountain fire was brought under control at 8 last night with 800 acres burned since it began Sunday afternoon. Mopping-up operations were ongoing this morning. Three trucks were sent to a Louisiana-Pacific log deck on Gibney Lane in Fort Bragg at midnight but the blaze was quickly extinguished.
