Opening of Eighth Annual 12th District Agricultural Fair
A brisk wind and fine weather opened the Eighth Annual 12th District Agricultural Fair today with main gates at 9 a.m. Attendance was light until noon and crowds are expected later for frothy schedule entertainment. Judging began and will run through tomorrow. vaudeville acts, puppets, organ music, and an Up N Atom show fill the afternoon and evening. Exhibits across all departments show gains over last year, with horse show, agricultural, horticultural, canned goods, baked goods, and textiles entries listed. livestock facilities are reported full. Theft of $12,000 Coin Collection Reported
Jacques Dubois of Hollywood reported to police in Cleveland at the 63rd annual American Numismatic Assn convention that $12,000 worth of valuables and collector’s gold coins were stolen from his hotel room. A briefcase and four leather albums containing U S 20 gold pieces a gold nugget and a Mexican gold bracelet with rare coins were missing after he returned to his room shortly after midnight.

Williams Faces Charges For Manslaughter
Lyle C. Williams, 21, was held to answer to superior court by Judge W. S. Van Dyke on manslaughter charges in the death of Wade Hampton Watts Jr., 34, of San Fernando. Watts died when a log dolly tipped onto his car on the Redwood Highway near Laytonville. California Highway Patrol cites gross negligence by Williams as the cause. Witness William Weber testified Williams was about three feet over the center of the road in the curve and the dolly tipped onto Watts’ sedan. Mrs. Elizabeth Watts and son Lawrence were slightly injured. Wade Watts III was not. Williams, represented by Blair McGowan, is out on $2000 bail and due in court Friday before Judge Lilburn Gibson.
