Moscow backed Egypt in the Suez Canal dispute and denounced the Suez Canal Company as a stronghold of colonialism in Egypt. Soviet Foreign Minister Dmitri Shepilov defended the legality of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser's position.
In a stir during the Suez crisis Shepilov urged a six nation commission to organize a fresh parley including Egypt. France proposed recognizing Egyptian ownership of the canal with profits handed to Cairo under international control. Dulles stance stopped short of Nasser demand that Egypt alone run the waterway.
The piece notes Adial as Democratic nominee and references a Frisco event with Republicans, plus mentions a water quality issue and a trio of patients at Menacing State Hospital seeking protective custody. Ukiah Union high school district trustees remodel Potter Valley high school kitchen into a domestic science cooking room with full equipment. New courses include foods and general shop and auto mechanics taught by qualified staff. Faculty moves include Richard O. Jones, Lowell Deering, and Lowell Near joining Potter Valley staff as 65 to 70 students begin the year.
Freshmen and new students must report to the high school auditorium at 9 a.m. on Thursday September 6 for orientation and preliminary instruction. Vice Principal Bill Murphy announced. Those not registered may do so then. Regular classes start September 11 at 8:35 a.m. Buses begin normal schedules from September 11, with pickups 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and afternoon drops at 3:35 p.m.
Cairo reports say Israeli forces penetrated Egyptian territory near Rafah and Delerbalah in the Gaza Strip, clashing with Egyptian troops and killing nine soldiers. The reports describe the incursions and casualties along the Egypt Israel border.
Superior Court Judge Hale McCowen travels to Idaho mountain streams and the Snake River country for a short vacation Detouring through San Francisco to meet friends also planning the trip.
In the first ten days of the pear harvest 97 carloads are shipped over the NWP from Ukiah totaling about 1800 tons. Lake county rail shipments began last weekend and now account for roughly half of current totals.

Mendocino County wool growers receive a total of 225944.60 dollars in incentive payments for the marketing year ending March 31 1956 based on sales. The payments average 44.9 percent of the price received to raise the return to 62 cents per hundred pounds. A one cent per pound deduction funds a wool promotion program under producer and trade organizations.
Mendocino County urges added federal and state civil defense aid, noting annual CD costs near 12 000 with under 5 percent covered by outside aid. The resolution cites a potential 100 000 evacuees for a 55 000 population area and calls for relief to avoid taxpayers bearing the burden.

Virgil Lee Riley a 26 year old Redwood Valley lumber grader was fined 300 by Judge Fred Goss after pleading guilty to trespassing night hunting and improper tagging two bucks. Companion Noble Brackett about 35 unemployed remains at large. Riley’s rifle was confiscated and deer tags forfeited for six months. Deputy A A de Grassi arrested them on his Redwood Valley ranch last week.
