Niekro Throws Braves First No-Hitter of Era
Phil Niekro pitched the first no hitter in Braves history as Atlanta beat the San Diego Padres 9-0. Colbert called it knuckleball perfection, while Niekro recalled Spahn as the last Braves pitcher to throw a no hitter in Milwaukee in 1961. Other NL scores included the Cardinals sweeping the Mets and the Expos edging the Cubs. MLB noted two no hitters on the same day for only the second time since 1898.
