Ukiahi band concert fundraiser for B C trip
Ukiah residents can attend a Monday 8 p.m. Ukiahi band concert at Chessall Gym with a $1 donation. Proceeds fund travel to Victoria B C next month for an international parade and Queen Victoria Day celebration, following a recent unanimous superior rating in Santa Rosa. Band members will perform old and new favorites while volunteering for yard work and errands to boost the fund, with contact numbers for hiring band members.

AV school wins planning approval for relocation use permit
Anderson Valley's private Backman Hill School earned a 40 year use permit after a closed session between lawyers for Ashikus and landowners Beckers and Smiths. Access remained the main dispute with Beckers Smiths opposing widening the easement but agreeing on a minimum 20 foot road and improvements. The project includes percolation tests, soil borings, an improved entrance to Highway 128, and drainage work to address Indian Creek runoff. The Board noted no incidents since the school opened in 1964 and confirmed supervision of residents at all times.

Mitchell admits meetings on Watergate bugging plans
Former Attorney General John N. Mitchell testified before a grand jury that he attended meetings last year where plans for bugging Democrats were discussed but he did not authorize or know about the Watergate bugging itself. His lawyer said he stopped the plans and that there was no confirmed perjury. Mitchell denied advance knowledge of the June 17 break in and reiterated he cut off the intelligence plan when it included bugging.
