Mrs Newby to resign Mendocino College board seat

Carol Newby Ukiah counselor and founding Mendocino Community College district trustee plans to quit the college board citing time demands from high school counseling and duties. The resignation may be presented at the next April board meeting at 4 30 p m in Room 501 Ukiah Fairgrounds. Open to the public. A separate police report notes a gunman robbed the Ukiah service station of 4558 dollars, wearing a ski mask, fleeing in a tan Dodge Dart. The store attendant reported the theft occurred at 2 50 p m near N State and Ford Streets.

Parole hearing slated for killer Thomas Braun

District Attorney Duncan James said he learned convicted murderer Thomas E. Braun is set for a June parole hearing before the California Adult Authority parole board. Braun, serving a life sentence at San Quentin for the 1960s slaying of Timothy Luce and related crimes, has an accomplice also serving life. The case followed a murder spree by two Washington drifters, with the trial conducted in 1968 after a venue change to San Jose.

Blast at ammo plant in Lapua kills 43 in Finland
