Teen-Age Killer Sentenced to 50 Years in Hammer Murder
Joseph Schwartz a 17 year old Chicago youth was sentenced to 50 years for killing Alvin Palmer 17 in an act linked to a gang raid by The Rebels. Schwartz testified he attacked in a daze and sought a well dressed man not Palmer. The trial of eleven co defendants followed. The state sought the death penalty.

City detectives arrested two youths ages 15 and 17 accused of passing more than 475 in bogus checks. The 17 year old allegedly passed six checks for 46 65 each and his 15 year old brother six more for 26 65 each using fake identities. A third 15 year old accomplice was named.
