Air Force weighs cuts as costs rise on new planes
Air Force officials told aircraft industry representatives that high prices may force elimination or downsizing of contracts for new planes. Secretary J G Douglas and other top officials said 1957 spending will exceed budget estimates by more than one billion dollars and 1958 could be about 1.2 billion above estimates. Reductions already include dropping five wings in 1957 and plans to cut nine more in 1958.
