Bracero Program Extension Urged by California Leaders
George H. Hobbs, chair of the California Growers Farm Labor Committee, warned in Fresno that failure to extend the Bracero program would trigger a farm labor catastrophe. He defended the law from opponents claims, insisting it safeguards domestic workers and imposes strict standards on braceros. Emphasizing congressional testimony, Hobbs cited the program’s role in supplying seasonal workers who supported California agriculture.
