Arizona Receives More Federal Aid Than National Average

A 1955 study by Dr. Philip G. Hudson and F. Paul Bunker shows Arizona received $34.8 million in federal grants in aid, above the national per capita average of $28.31, but 40 percent less than seven Rocky Mountain states. The report notes high reliance on old age assistance and highway funds, with Arizona among the higher per capita recipients in aid to dependent children and unemployment administration. It also highlights uneven veteran aid and that 92 federal aid classes exist with Arizona lacking a share in 38 categories.
