Refugee repatriation threat outlined by U.N. envoy
The U.N. refugee office warned Yugoslavia may force returns of refugees from Yugoslavia to Soviet bloc countries and warned West German authorities to bar no longer eligible asylum seekers. G. J. Van Heuven Goedhart, the U.N. high commissioner, noted pressure from Soviet bloc states to repatriate refugees and said his office would monitor the actions. He reported 409,250 refugees under his mandate in Europe, with 70,650 in camps across Austria, Germany, Greece and Italy.
