Dmitri Shepilov, 30, named new foreign minister of the Soviet Union, replacing Vyacheslav Molotov. Shepilov, editor in chief of Pravda since December, follows a long line of leadership changes amid Khrushchev and Bulganin’s policy shifts with Tito’s ongoing influence in the Communist bloc.
Edward Titcomb 93 a Nogales border commerce pioneer died Saturday in a Tucson rest home. He left Windham Massachusetts at 14 and by 20 fought in the West and traded into the Arizona territory developing mines and founding a mining machinery agency. He owned four Nogales machine plants and was a key importer in Mexican sugar and hardware. Funeral at St Andrew's Nogales with survivors including four daughters and two sons in Nogales and Rochester New York.
A task force from County Attorney Raul Castro filed criminal complaints against the mayor, clerk, and council members of South Tucson. Public records were seized and turned over to an accountant as deputies removed town records and summonses. The complaints allege felonies for concealing public records and illegally lending public money, with hearings set for Justice of the Peace Clark.
Deputy County Attorney George Morse described a chaotic scene in the South Tucson town hall as a $20 bill vanished from public money records. Elizabeth MacTeny and Miss Marteny faced charges related to receipt and transfer of public funds amid a broader dispute over disincorporation efforts and raid petitions.
