Plan Big Improvement At Smithboro Mine In Illinois
The Mississippi Valley Colliery Co. plans extensive upgrades at the Smithboro coal mine in Illinois, aiming for completion by February 1 to begin full operation. Upgrades include a double scales system, a box car loader, and new rail switches, with heat shipping facilities and bottling works for the mine output. The project expects to raise employment from 15–20 to about 100 workers, leveraging the water from the mine as a valuable medicinal asset. A Chicago firm will contract the entire output for bottling operations.
