Sapp Dies in Donk Mine Tragic Fall near Vandalia
John M Sapp a Troy resident and Vandalia Line employee died when a gate was left open at the Donk No 3 mine. A moving timber truck toppled into the shaft while he and companions were loading. Coroner ruled accidental with Argo as sole eyewitness. Sapp leaves a large family and long service record.

Passing of a Pioneer Mrs Anna Virgin of St Jacob
Mrs Anna Miscinda Virgin wife of Jefferson Virgin Sr of St Jacob died at her home after a three day illness following a stroke aged 81 years 1 month 25 days. Born February 13 1823 she lived all her life in Madison county. Surviving are her husband two sons Jefferson and Frank and two daughters Mrs A W Reagie and Mrs H W Lewie plus 25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral was held from the family residence and at a Japtial church with interment in Keystone cemetery St Jacob.
