Three strangers entered Gudder & Vides in Pana and took B10 worth of booty in broad daylight. They were pursued but escaped, leaving authorities to investigate the heist.

In St Joseph Missouri on Tuesday April 7 Democrats captured the mayoralty with W S Spratt defeating George Crowther by 700 votes. Democrats also won two common council seats while Republicans took two. Republicans elected T R Ashbrook as comptroller by 700, J C Reeves as common council president by 1000, J P Carolus as police judge by 600, and Milton J Bauer as city attorney by 43. Other towns statewide had no notable political results.
Denver mourns as Col. G C Ellsworth a prominent pioneer and wealthy citizen dies at 72 from paralysis. He arrived in Denver from Chicago in 1871 and served in the first state constitutional convention. He was once receiver of the Denver and Rio Grande railroad during a court control period.
Oskaloosa Iowa April 7 an official call from miners headquarters for a joint meeting of operators and miners on April 11. The aim is to reach an agreement and adjust differences satisfactorily. It is predicted that the 18000 striking miners will be back at work within a week.
A subway blaze near Fulton Street and Broad way blocked Broadway for half an hour as a small lamp ignited burlap and timber in the tunnel. Firefighters freed trapped workers with a street platform, water poured down from nearby buildings, and telegraph and telephone cables beneath the street were damaged, crippling downtown to uptown service and Cortland exchange wires.
Five people perished and another was dying after a Wednesday blaze in the metal-sheathed three story Columbia Hall building on Wilson Place Mount Vernon New York. The dead include Nathan Frey 66 Isador Frey 12 Helen Frey 9 Henry Frey 3 and Gussie Dohring 10 a cousin of Mrs Rebecca Frey. The injured are Mrs Rebecca Frey dying in Mount Vernon hospital Mrs Asa Barry burned but not severely and Mrs Louisa Lavigne overcome by smoke.
Edward and Jacob Hammond brothers and Oscar Sigerteen died from asphyxiation after a gas leak in the Hammond home. Sigerteen, who boarded there, turned on the gas and left the stove burning. The three bodies were found by the Hammond family after returning from the theater.
Kalispell Montana April 7 a mail stage between Holt and Big Fork was held up by a single bandit. The stage driver was alone and forced to surrender the mail and valuables in his possession. Authorities believe a local character may be the culprit.
