Police say more than 1500 dollars worth of rare money vanished from William Poole’s 85 Aiken Ave residence after a break in between 8 am and 4 30 pm Tuesday. The loss included coin collections and silver certificates.

In Petersburg New York a family reports a giant pumpkin grown by 2 1/2 year old Shane Dunlop from stray seeds. The pumpkins weigh 145 80 107 and 110 pounds with circumferences up to 71 1 2 inches. The family plans to carve one for Halloween and no pies are planned.
The third largest Northeast craft fair runs Oct 8 to 11 at the Washington County Fairgrounds Columbus Day weekend. More than 500 families plan to attend the Marriage Encounter Pilgrimage at the National Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville on Saturday. The event, sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Albany chapter, began last fall as Holy Year observance. Outdoor activities start at 1 30 p m with a 4 p m Mass. attendees urged to arrive by noon with picnics. The Rensselaer County delegation is led by Mr and Mrs James Upton of Troy.
The Little Sisters of the Poor relocate 90 residents from 391 Central Ave to the Our Lady of Hope Residence at 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane Latham. Move runs 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with ambulances, cars, and buses. A noon meal with the Tidy Musicians follows arrival.
The Bennington Octoberfest will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight in the downtown armory. The Bavarian Barons, praised by West Germany for authenticity, will play music from Germany Austria and Bavaria in native costumes with three female dancers. Attendees must be 18 or older with age proof. German snacks and liquids will be served. The Armory sits on South Street behind town offices.
Daniel Malark 23 of 1510 Second St Rensselaer is set for arraignment Friday at 9 45 am in Rensselaer County Court on a charge of second degree criminal possession of stolen property after a county grand jury indicted him for possessing a stolen tape recorder in his home.
A 40 year old Colonie man John Clark was stabbed to death in his Essex Hotel room on the third floor. Dave Gilmore 22 of New York City was arrested for homicide and held for court. Clark worked for Blackman and Elsary and was on a business trip with a Syracuse Albany office history.
Wilton residents opposed the Wilton School site becoming a prison on Mt. McGregor despite state Corrections Commissioner Ward saying overflowed facilities require it. The plan awaits EnCon environmental impact review and Corrections Commission approval with potential lawsuits and local impact on property values and safety. Ward cited 50 vacant beds and 200 inmates added monthly, with 150 minimum and 250 more to come, and projected a 4.5 million annual budget and 88 officers.
