Man Held For Theft Of $1,300
James Frederick Bumbard, 40, is charged with grand larceny for stealing about $1,300 in cash from the D A Schulte Inc cigar store at Fulton and River Streets. He was being questioned by Troy police and Dist. Atty. Earle J. Wiley as he awaits trial at the November term of Rensselaer County Court. Bombard, returned to Troy on a bench warrant, had just finished a jail term in Danbury for impersonating an officer and allegedly took about $1,560 from the store basement on Christmas Eve before fleeing via taxi to Albany and then to New York. He reportedly wore a major’s insignia and claimed Canadian Army service and public speaking engagements. He was returned to Rensselaer County Jail after questioning.
