Rotary Club Hears Banker on War Bonds and Banking
Edgar C. Stillman vice president and cashier of National City Bank of Troy told the Rotary Club luncheon that banks have humanized public relations. He cited War Bonds sales, government financing, ration banking, tax deposits, check cashing, thrift, personal loans and trust services as bank functions during wartime. He noted banks finance about 50 percent of government debt, hold 60 to 70 percent of portfolios in government securities, and that high reserves and lower local security investments reduce interest rates. He urged War Bond purchases as the safest investment worldwide.
