Troy bids to house 19th century exhibit from Smithsonian
Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway raises 1 million dollars to ship a recreation of late 19th century artifacts to Troy. City officials and lawmakers pledge up to 1.5 million to display the 15 000 square foot exhibit along the riverfront as part of a downtown renaissance. The project aims to move relics including Baldwin locomotive, steam engines, ice machine, patent models and a 35 foot Otis steam elevator from Saratoga. Congress and local leaders seek Smithsonian approval to locate the piece in Troy for the tricentennial celebration in 1976.
