Two developers show interest in renovating Ogden Mill in Cohoes for about 3 million dollars. One plans a four story retrofit with upper floor apartments and lower commercial space amid mixed bank reactions. A second developer seeks a residential conversion as Canal Square plaza is planned east of the building.
Four Cohoes projects totaling about 577000 under the Local Public Act received funding. Projects include Amity Street rebuilding with a new storm sewer, a 95406 contract due within a month, filtration plant repairs 158681, Cohoes High School roof reconstruction 240000, and drainage corrections at the high school. Mayor Canestrari notes tax dollars won’t be needed locally. Congressman Stratton notified approval by phone.
The Cohoes Board approved three of Superintendent Gerald Amyot’s recommendations at the Tuesday education meeting. Officials approved Amyot’s professional, nonprofessional and administrative employee appointments and the bid for Peppy’s School Service to transport handicapped children, and the plan to cut lunch program costs. The board rejected the district treasurer tax cancellation proposal.
The Women of the Moose Cohoes Chapter meet at 8 p.m. Friday in the lodge rooms. An open session allows wives of new candidates to attend. Special enrollment features Mayor Ronald Canestrari as class representative with speakers and a Syracuse enrollment ritual team. A buffet follows. Dedication is Saturday with a prime rib dinner and guest speaker Mayor Canestrari. Open house Sunday 2 to 3 p.m. for area residents.
Edward Farrell says the city-wide mailout informs residents about use of Community Development funds. The issue covers progress on programs including new sidewalks downtown redevelopment and improved fire protection.
The Saratoga County Board of Elections says last week's Conservative and Liberal primary tallies in Waterford remain unofficial and should be finalized by week’s end.
The Pop Warner League starts its football season this Sunday with Pee-Wee games at Troy High field at 1 p.m. featuring Watervliet Steelers versus South Troy Warriors. Midget action follows at Watervliet High School at 2 p.m. with Watervliet Midgets facing Scotia Midgets. Concessions will be available at both sites.
