Detroit teachers strike drains city as court orders ignored

Amid a continuing walkout in Detroit and similar actions nationwide, 40,000 of the citys 55,000 teachers stayed off duty after a Supreme Court antistrike order. Primary vote on judges rejected in state convention

Delegates debated a substitute for the main judiciary article offered by retired Court of Appeals Judge Desmond.
