Army Ousts Yank Editor
New York reports Maj. Hartzell Spence has been removed as editor of Yank the Army weekly amid an ongoing dispute over editorial direction. Army officials call it a routine transfer, while supporters say it caps a clash over whether soldiers should get what they read or what the Army wants. A Legion protest accusing the piece of bias sparked the controversy. Spence, author of One Foot in Heaven, is replaced temporarily by Sgt. Joseph McCarthy.
