Bus service faces possible end as franchise expires

Tobin said the local bus venture cannot keep losing money after 14% years and warned the future looks bleak if it stays. The existing franchise terminates October 23 and no new franchise will be pursued without drastic changes. Committee members debated subsidies. Tobin rejected that option but offered to think it over. Mayor Earl suggested a financial guarantee, while Corbett proposed a transit authority. The group will meet again September 18 with representatives from Glens Falls Hudson Falls Kingsbury Fort Edward South Glens Falls and Moreau, excluding Queensbury, all aiming to continue Yankee Trails bus service.
