Christine Farny, a 15 year old Averill Park High School student, won the Scramble puzzle with a perfect score of 100. The winner, a Candy Striper at St Mary’s Hospital, lives at RD 3 Averill Park and scored highest among 26 contestants solving the 31 letter word EPOXIDIZE.
County Clerk Martin B. Stack announced the appointment of two additional motor vehicle license clerks effective Sept. 11. Mary M. Casey of Wynantskill and Anne E. Conroy of Albany area were chosen from the Civil Service list, Casey third with 90, Conroy seventh with 81. Both have prior public or clerical experience and were on provisional rolls.
Bradford Fancy has been named director of Mechanicville adult education with an annual salary of 500 dollars. He succeeds William Cavanaugh who will focus more on being school district attendance officer while remaining tax collector. The change aims to free Mr. Cavanaugh to concentrate on monitoring absences. he will work mornings at the high school on Pruyn Hill and afternoons at the Middle School on North Main Street. The post carries a salary from 3900 to 5100 dollars.

Warner has studied at Atlantic Union College Genesee State College and Utica College program of Syracuse University.
John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co opens new offices on the second floor of the Improvement Building at 46 North Main Street Mechanicville. The firm previously operated from the Masonic Temple at 211 Park Ave now slated for a move by Mechanicville Savings and Loan Assn. The Hancock offices are across from the Savings and Joan building with no announced date for the Savings and Loan move.
Mechanicville church notices list services across several churches. Salvation Army holds Sunday School at 10 am and a 11 am holiness meeting, Gospel Hall hosts morning and evening services, and churches such as the Church of the Assumption St Paul the Apostle St Luke's Episcopal and others publish Mass times, confessions, catechism sessions, and union summer services led by Rev. Dante L. Girolami, Rev. Ernest Autch, Rev. Curtis Denney, and Rev. Leonard Bass.
Mechanicville School District approved two women as drivers for the next term. Karen Angelino will drive Bus No. 19 on River Road and Hemstreet Park routes at $845 yearly, with Doris Hammond as substitute driver at $2 per hour. The Senior Dante Club will hold its first fall meeting at the Sons of Italy Hall in Mechanicsville at 8 p.m. Tuesday to plan upcoming season activities. A report on the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit, cosponsored by the club and the Sons of Italy Lodge, will be given, and Mrs. Frances Belinsky and Mrs. Margaret Michele will discuss the state convention.
