Nassau adopts 1977 budget after fire company objection

Nassau Town Board approved the 1977 budget after a Hoags Corners Fire Company objection. The board kept an $8,600 allocation for the fire company, up from 1976, within a $21,800 total for town fire services. Tax raise totals drop to $130,789.62 with an anticipated $10 per $1,000 tax rate decrease.

Motorcyclists charged in Poestenkill incident

Two members of the Breed motorcycle gang, Martin Pulver and William Liberty, were charged by a Rensselaer County grand jury with first degree rape and first degree sodomy in the Oct. 3 Poestenkill Albany woman case. Pulver 25 of Kingston, Liberty 24 with no address given, allegedly assaulted the woman by slapping and punching, pulling hair, and twisting toes to overcome resistance.

Auto vandalism reported in East Greenbush

East Greenbush police investigated several incidents of car vandalism this week. Three spray painting events were reported on Corliss Avenue on Monday, damaging two cars and a Delaware Avenue vehicle also sprayed. A fourth car on Washington Avenue Tuesday had its vinyl roof split and antenna ripped off.

Albany Man Charged With DWI And Wrong-Way Driving

An Albany man Walter Timofeer aged 36 of 82 Morton Ave Albany faced charges Wednesday for an October 6 Troy incident. He was accused of driving while intoxicated driving while license revoked and two counts of wrong-way driving on a one way street at Grand and State Streets in Troy. In a separate grand jury action George Cesario Jr aged 18 of 2 Irving St Albany was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief for allegedly breaking a woman's car windshield with a jack on May 7 in Rensselaer.

Two minor fires reported in Rensselaer

Police reports say two small fires occurred in Rensselaer over two days. A fire under a rear porch at Connie Reilly’s residence on Third Ave was quickly extinguished with no damage. A trash dumpster fire at Casey's Mobil on Third Ave and Washington Street caused no damage.

Navy careers highlighted for Maple Hill students at MHHS

Maple Hill High School's Media Staff heard a Navy presentation by Paul Hartnag le and Tim Vroman detailing electronics and nuclear power training opportunities and military duties including Makalapa Hawaii. Rensselaer woman convicted of rape

Iris Becker a 17 year old from Rensselaer pleaded guilty to first degree rape becoming the first area woman convicted in this charge. She and co defendant Arthur Bingham 16 pled guilty in Albany County Court and face sentencing November 10. The case involves a 14 year old victim and three other defendants with charges including rape sodomy and unlawful imprisonment.

Jury seating to begin in Schodack sex case

Jury selection for the kidnapping and sexual abuse trial of Albany man Daniel P. Travison is set to start Monday in Rensselaer County Court. The 1974 case involves a woman student at Albany State University who was allegedly taken to Schodack, threatened, restrained, assaulted, and coerced into sexual contact. Albany eyes 180 bed health facility to ease bed shortage

Albany County officials seek state approval to build a 4.5 million health related care facility next to the county nursing home. Bonds would fund construction with state reimbursements paying off long term debts. Completion hoped by 1980 with construction possible by year end 1977.
