Columbia High Names 14 National Merit Commended Students
Fourteen Columbia High School seniors are named in a National Merit commendation for scoring in the top two percent of the 1967 test cohort. Principal Martin Corman announces the honorees, who include Kevin P. Balfe, George Carpinello, Wendy Cooper, Linda Griffin, and others among 40,000 nationwide. The award places them just below semifinalists announced last September by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation president John M. Stalnaker notes the honor recognizes their high academic achievement and college potential.
