Nassau Town Board set to adopt 1977 budget with tax rate cut

Nassau town officials led by Supervisor Floyd Hitchcock prepared a 1977 budget totaling 359,104.12 with 130,789.62 to be raised by taxes, aiming about a 10 per thousand drop in the overall tax rate outside village fire protection. The plan preserves highway, general fund, and fire district spending with targeted cuts and state aid adjustments.

East Greenbush Hires Athletics Chief Amid Debate

East Greenbush Board of Education approved a new director of physical education and athletics for grades K through 12. The $16 000 to $18 000 post drew petitions from about 162 signers opposing the cost, while some members argued it would benefit students and programs. The board also backed a drug abuse policy, and approved speed bumps at Genet School despite mixed votes.

East Greenbush approves tax exemption for new or expanding firms

East Greenbush School Board approved a five ten year tax exemption on new business construction costs over ten thousand dollars. The plan excludes residential properties and applies to construction started after January 1 1976 and completed after July 1 1976. The measure aims to spur business expansion in the district.

Halloween film treats at area schools this Friday

Cast a Halloween program at Castleton Elementary from 4 to 6 pm for grades 3 through 7 with a $1 donation. Maple Hill High School hosts Frankenstein cartoons and Wolfman for grades 8 to 12 and adults from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for $1.50. Both are run by Maple Hill High School media. John Kienzle directs.

Cable TV group OK’d by East Greenbush Planning Board

East Greenbush Planning Board grants minor subdivision approvals for Troy New Channels and radio station WHAZ WGNA-FM. New Channels seeks a two lot split on Stock Lane to acquire land from Cornelius Newbury for a 100 foot microwave tower 10 foot dish with grounding and underground utilities. A zoning variance hearing is set for Oct 20. WHAZ and WGNA-FM receive approval to subdivide Old Troy Road to convert the Thompson mansion into a radio station with site plan review on Nov 10. Broadway Bakery landscaping was not yet submitted while inspector reports promised work starting Saturday.

Antique Show and Sale at Greenbush Reformed Church

East Greenbush hosts an antique show and sale October 22 and 23 at the Christian Education Building on Columbia Turnpike. Five dealers display furniture glassware jewelry dolls and primitives. a snack bar offers soup sandwiches and desserts. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. October 22 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. October 23.
