William J. Currier aged 25 of Waterford was found guilty in Albany federal court of robbing about 500 dollars from Marine Midland Bank in Troy on May 26. Jurors deliberated five hours. sentencing set for December 6. Currier faces up to 20 years or a 5,000 dollar fine or both.

Inspection Of Meat Approved By Senate

The Senate passed a bill to require federal standards for all meat sold in the United States within three years. Lake Ontario Boat Beached Rescue Near Oswego

Six people were rescued from a 40-foot cabin cruiser nine miles west of Oswego after they radioed for help during a storm on Lake Ontario. Coast Guard and Sheriff's department searchers found five family members and one other person about four hours after distress calls.

Foster Mother Tells of Threats In Ohio Murder Trial

In Lake County Ohio a 48 year old foster mother described a nightmare night to jurors in the first degree murder trial of 16 year old Fred Esherick Jr. The state says he killed his father with a bayonet and assaulted his mother then dumped them in a creek near Painesville. She testified that he warned I am going to kill you before the deadly events.

Governor cites need for higher taxes at town meeting

Governor Rockefeller told an audience at Fulton Montgomery Community College that rising demands for Medicaid welfare and education could outstrip revenues and force tax increases. He noted mixed calls for more state aid education higher teacher salaries and more funding for law enforcement housing and highways while warning officials to be realistic about funds. He closed with plans for future town meetings in Binghamton and New York City.
