Widow Of Casey Jones Dies In Tennessee At 92

The widow of famed locomotive Casey Jones died in Tennessee at age 92 after a long illness. She had been an invalid since a hip fracture four years earlier. Married Thanksgiving Day 1869, she and Casey Jones shared a storied life tied to the Cannonball Express. Her grave and Casey’s engine relics were later presented in a museum setting.

Airman and Wife Die in Central New York Crash

State Police identify Lt. John B. Tilley, 26, and his wife Portia of Burlington Wisconsin as victims in a side collision near this south-central New York community. Portia died at Cobleskill Hospital. John is listed with a home address on Brooks Ayn, Burlington.

Farewell party for Kneeland marks career shift

R J Kneeland of Metuchen will leave Gilman Ve with the Dilmatt Paper Co after more than six years at the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co plant in Mechanicville. He has served on product development staff and as internal vice president of the Mechanicville Junior Chamber of Commerce. The event, hosted by family and friends, precedes a new post at Gilman Ve. A separate note reports a final meeting of the year for the Women of the Auxiliary at Flaw Brook Fish and Game Club. A new owner, Seymour Nurick, takes over Buchdahl's Grothing Store in Mechauleville from the Buchdahl family.

Police Tag 581 Traffic Violators in Midtown

New York police cracked down Friday on traffic violators in midtown Manhattan. A special detail tagged 58 tickets for violations on 3rd Street and adjacent arteries as part of efforts to ease congestion. Mayor Robert F. Wagner approved a plan to add 100 meter maids, civilian workers, to assist the traffic department.
