East Greenbush school board approved a two year teachers contract with job security for all district staff despite debate. The accord limits a wage and increment freeze in year one to a seven percent rise in year two and allows attrition based position elimination. Some members questioned communications and timing after an earlier negotiating session.

HUD Albany director Robert J. Wolf says 300 units in five counties Schenectady Montgomery Saratoga Rensselaer Albany will receive subsidies. About 803000 yearly supports 220 elderly handicapped units and 292000 funds 80 family units with at least 35 three bedroom homes. Eligible tenants pay up to 25 percent of income. HUD covers the rest of the fair market rent.
The Fantasy Fair, a new family attraction at the Saratoga Fair, features animated figures, marionettes, and live performers. Created by Jack Smith, it uses electronics and compressed air for moving life sized characters. Voices include John Denver and others. Barbara Mappis stars as Cinderella. It runs June 25 through July 4 at the Saratoga Race Course.
Rensselaer police investigated several thefts with two men arrested. Donald E. Gardner posted bail after disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges. Louis F. Fine faced harassment allegations and bail was set. A stolen car recovered behind Van Rensselaer Elementary and a bicycle, four machines, and boat parts were reported missing or found. William F. Luke Jr. said machines were taken from the Barrell on Broadway. James Polsinelle and Arthur Getnar reported losses including a jar of money and other items.
The Shaker Museum in Old Chatham will admit residents of Chatham Nassau and Stephentown free on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 30 p.m. Proof of residency is required. Neighbor's Day aims to raise awareness of the museum's Shaker artifact collection and shops.
