Playwright Edward Albee accepted the 1967 Pulitzer Prize for drama for A Delicate Balance and criticized the prize trustees. He said the Pulitzer risks losing its honor and cited past snubs such as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? He explained his acceptance to speak freely, to avoid embarrassment of other winners, and because the prize remains an honor despite concerns.
