Retiring Teachers Began In One Room Schools
Two East Greenbush elementary teachers with long careers dating to one room schools will retire in June. Mrs. Florence Hall, fourth grade at Nassau Donald P. Sutherland School, began teaching in 1919 and has taught in Albany Amsterdam Ballston Spa and Nassau. Mrs. Jessie Pelton, fourth grade at East Greenbush Central, started in 1934 in Vermont and taught eight grades in East Greenbush since 1936, centralizing in 1938. Both cited changes in curriculum and equipment and said they will travel and stay in touch while missing the children most.
