Mechanicville Water Derby Weekend Draws Thousands

Mechanicville hosts a two day Tenandeho Creek and Hudson River canoe races with 400 entrants in 200 boats and as many as 10 000 spectators. National champions Sam and Sue Allison join the event along with U S Senator Buckley and Representative Pattison in the parade.

Record Hop Planned for Mechanicville

Sixth seventh and eighth graders from Mechanicville schools are invited to a record hop April 2 from 7 30 to 10 30 p.m. at Assumption parish hall with Ric Mitchell from WTRY. Jackson to Speak at Saratoga Bicentennial Celebration

Democratic hopeful Senator Henry Scoop Jackson will address the Bicentennial Celebration at the Canfield Casino Congress Park Saratoga Springs four days before New York's April 6 primary. He will also speak at Rensselaer Knights of Columbus Hall before the event. Tickets cost $10 and are available through the Jackson for President HQ at the Marisa Motel on South Broadway.

Mechanicville Officers Detect Smashed Cash Boxes

Mechanicville patrolmen John Wallace and Michael Zurlo found three smashed cash boxes at Cocozzo's Car Wash on North Main Street early Tuesday. The boxes were opened and an undetermined amount of cash was stolen. Police also report youths shooting BBs at passing cars along South Second Street Monday night with no sign of the culprits.

East Greenbush Offers Beginning Motorcycle Rider Course

East Greenbush School District continuing education program offers a six week beginning motorcycle rider course starting May 1. Sno Fun Kawasaki of West Sand Lake provides motorcycles and helmets. A 30 dollar fee applies. Course completion may lower insurance rates. Reservations through the district adult education office.
