The Board of Estimate and Appportionment approved reimbursement of 105.54 to Jay Knight for taxes paid on incorrect Troy property. Comptroller Lawrence J. Collins authorized the repayment following a deputy corporation counci l recommendation.
Cirillo states Mr Knight paid 10884 for 1044 taxes on Antonio Menillo’s property at 3013 Seventy Avenue near Glen Avenue. Knight’s own taxes remained unpaid until a 160 tax delinquency notice prompted city action at City Treasurer Thomas F. M Donald’s office. Officials note Knight recently acquired the property and paid the wrong tax bill by mistake.
First Lt Robert J Doran USMCR of Troy was welcomed along with several new members into the newly formed US Marine Corps Volunteer Reserve Unit 38 at a Sunday meeting held at 202 State Street Albany Col Bertrand Troy USMCR of Albany commanded the unit and lectured on its principles and functions Maj Edmund J Bowen and division officers will discuss duties at the next meeting on March 21 at William Dale OBrien Detachment Marine Corps League 202 State Street Albany. Marine Corps men of the Troy Area were invited to join the unit and attendance at training meetings will earn official service credit.
Tax reports filed in Rensselaer Surrogate's Court cover three estates. Roscoe C Andrews died in Hoosick Falls on December 21 148 leaving a net estate of 2936706 and a taxable amount of 936706 with state tax 267. Ruth L Andrews is widow. Myra C Green died at Petersburg May 8 148 leaving a net estate 5649 with state tax 5545, split among Fremont A Haswell Ashton Haswell Beatrice H Brenenstaht. Charles F Regan died in Hoosick Falls June 6 1Hb leaving net estate 493299 with no state tax, one third to widow Mary E Regan and two thirds to daughter Rita R Donnelly. Attorneys listed: Irving Chase for Andrews. Fitt & Skorupek and others for Green and Regan estates.
Members of the Fifth Ward Democratic Service Club met at the Albia Odd Fellows Hall to compile a list of block captains and tenants. The ward is divided into eight districts and the completed cadre list will be shown at the next meeting April 6 at the Terminal Tavern on Pawling Avenue. About fifty men are involved and Bertie wae was elected president and spokesman for the club.
Eugene K McNerney of 139 Rev Enth Avenue is appointed hoseman in the Troy Fire Department by acting public water official Moss F Pearl Fredericks. The appointment takes effect Saturday March, filling the vacancy caused by Andrew Kazanjian resignation. Chief Carl A Smith assigns McNerney to the second platoon of Truck 2.
Hairdressers from the Troy area plan to attend the New York State Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association convention in Albany. The event will include education sessions and a liquor license hearing for William O. Holan at 307 Congress Street. The Alcohol Beverage Control Board will announce the final decision later.
