Higgins Reelected to Bennington Board in Town Election

In Bennington Town, Joseph E. Higgins won reelection to a three year term on the Board of Selectmen as the Democratic and Citizens candidate, defeating Leon R. Eldred 767 to 662. Voters approved a $2,000 Battle Day budget for the Bennington Village Volunteer Fire Department and transferred airport control to the State Aeronautics Commission pending Montpelier legislation. Several tax and service proposals were defeated, including a $50,000 real estate appraisal and a $5,000 highway equipment sinking fund.

Baptist Church Tops Mission Campaign Totaling Over $4000

The First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls exceeded the $2000 World Mission goal with pledges over $4000 on the campaign’s first day, part of a national effort to raise $20 million for world capital improvements. About 76 percent of the congregation have been visited as two weeks of canvassing remain.

Death of Miss Lillian Hannay Linked To Hoosick Ties

News arrives of Miss Lillian B. Hannay dying in New York City, cousin of Mrs. John Howland, who once lived in Hoosick. Burial is planned in Stillwater. Weekend visitors included Mr and Mrs Edward Armstrong and family from Point Pleasant New Jersey visiting Mrs Inez Appel. The Four Korners Klub schedules an March 18 meeting hosted by Mr and Mrs John Jones.

Two Women Injured In Route 7 Crash

Two Troy women were injured in a one car crash on Route 7 about 1:30 a.m. yesterday. Irene Remillard and Florence Winters, both of RD 1 Troy, were treated at Samaritan Hospital. Remillard suffered a fractured right wrist while Winters sustained a possible head injury and fractured jaw. Troopers Milne and Caola investigated the Brunswick station incident.
