In Bennington Town, Joseph E. Higgins won reelection to a three year term on the Board of Selectmen as the Democratic and Citizens candidate, defeating Leon R. Eldred 767 to 662. Voters approved a $2,000 Battle Day budget for the Bennington Village Volunteer Fire Department and transferred airport control to the State Aeronautics Commission pending Montpelier legislation. Several tax and service proposals were defeated, including a $50,000 real estate appraisal and a $5,000 highway equipment sinking fund.

The First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls exceeded the $2000 World Mission goal with pledges over $4000 on the campaign’s first day, part of a national effort to raise $20 million for world capital improvements. About 76 percent of the congregation have been visited as two weeks of canvassing remain.

Two Women Injured In Route 7 Crash
Two Troy women were injured in a one car crash on Route 7 about 1:30 a.m. yesterday. Irene Remillard and Florence Winters, both of RD 1 Troy, were treated at Samaritan Hospital. Remillard suffered a fractured right wrist while Winters sustained a possible head injury and fractured jaw. Troopers Milne and Caola investigated the Brunswick station incident.
