St Marys Academy honors 17 graduates with multiple awards

Hoosick Falls St Mary's Academy awarded 17 graduates with 16 honors at commencement. Top honors went to Frank Wirmusky as valedictorian and Karen Vogel as salutatorian, with several students receiving religion, science, English, social studies and service awards from various sponsors.

Vermont approves state subsidy for Hoosac School students

Vermont Education Department will allow private Hoosac School to receive public tuition payments up to 1600 dollars per student. Headmaster James Beckford said Vermont families can contact local superintendents for details as officials noted the school’s churchaffiliated status but no church funding.

Hoosick Falls Leader Shiland and Crandall Run in Fifth District

Hoosick Falls Robert K. Shiland and Grafton Philip A. Crandall seek the Democratic line for Rensselaer County Legislature from the Fifth District. They face two Republican candidates to represent Hoosick, Grafton, Petersburg, Berlin and Poestenkill. Shiland, a village former official and Navy veteran, is the Hoosick Falls plant manager for Albany Felt Co. Crandall, an account clerk at Hudson Valley Community College, has been a Grafton town councilman since 1975.
