Halfmoon Board Moves to Block Library District Bill

Halfmoon supervisor John F. Dudek declares to Governor Carey’s counsel that all aspects of the proposed joint Clifton Park Halfmoon library district bill should be discussed by the Halfmoon town board with resident input before any enactment. He says the board was not consulted and learned of the bill only after its introduction. The measure, backed by Shenendehowa Library directors and sponsored by Assemblyman Robert D Andrea and Senator Douglas Hudson, would let the two towns seek a public vote to tax residents for a combined library. Clifton Park supervisor Charles McCloskey says he first heard of the plan from Dudek. both towns fund the library with annual grants that could vary. The state legislature must approve any jointly created district before taxes can be levied.
