Malta boy dies after trailer park vehicle collision

Three year old James J. Landry of Round Lake Trailer Park was struck by a car driven by Allen Diabo at about 7 40 p m. He was pronounced dead by Saratoga County Coroner Charles Sennett. State police said Diabo was not charged after backing out and the child ran into the rear wheel.

Mechanicville Hosts Hudson Mohawk Firemen Convention Parade

Mechanicville prepares for the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Firemen's Convention with the Nielson Hose Co. Green Sabres to be busy this weekend

Stillwater Dominates Local Bicentennial Parade Scenes

Stillwater groups marshaled up to fifty participants in parades at Ballston Cohoes Halfmoon and Lake George. They won two first prizes for Best Bicentennial Entry at Halfmoon and Lake George while showcasing a brass band float, Knox Trail Sled cannons, and a student color guard. Retiring nurse honored at party

Mrs. Irene Driscoll, a 25 year Saratoga Hospital nurse, 19 in pediatrics, was feted at Wallies Restaurant Greenwich. The 1933 graduate received gifts including a gold pin, money doll, terrarium, purse, and corsage as about 35 staffers attended. She plans to relax and travel in retirement.

Port Expansion Proposal Aims to Boost Rensselaer Share

A Harris study shows Rensselaer County now gets only three tenths of a percent of port benefits while out-of-state areas receive eight percent. The plan calls for a $13.6 million expansion with a new container terminal and bulk facilities, creating at least 41 port jobs and raising cargo to over 2.6 million tons. A public hearing on August 4 will review state DOT endorsement.

Seizure Victim Dies In Route 162 Crash

Floyd H. Kapps 59 of Schenectady was found dead after a pickup crash into a vacant Root home. Police say his son William Kopps of Mechanicville suffered a heart attack or seizure before the collision on Route 162. An autopsy was pending.

Amtrak Buys Stretches of Rail and Stations in Upstate NY

Amtrak reached a $90 million property deal acquiring the Post Hill rail bed from Castleton to Rensselaer and five stations including Rensselaer Colonie Schenectady Amsterdam and Hudson. The purchase also covers 722 miles of track as the carrier plans to improve service and end landlord arrangements.
