Woman Dies at 104 in Massachusetts War Wish
Mrs. Adelia Sophia Clark Moon, 104, longtime Petersburg native and Massachusetts resident, died Wednesday afternoon in North Adams. Born May 2, 1840, she lived in Petersburg most of her life, later moving to North Adams. Deaf and nearly blind, she recalled events from nearly a century ago and wished to live to see Hitler and Tojo crushed and peace prevail. She attended the Baptist Church in Williamstown and endured a life spanning five wars. A Troy photographer offered free wartime portraits to service families, with a plan to photograph Moon’s family at home, preserving images for long jungle temperatures and to be arranged two weeks in advance.
