Albany officials set May 1 1978 as the deadline to renovate the Port of Albany grain elevator or face shutdown. Cargill tenants say improvements costing about 4.5 million are needed to meet OSHA and EPA rules, including hopper-bottom redesign and a dust containment gantry. In Mechanicville a city policeman and a Hemstreet Park resident will receive bravery honors for rescuing Larry Fisher from a capsized boat in the Hudson River on June 24. Jeff Ingraham drowned, but Fisher was saved by Mark Boucher and Officer Nick DiVirgillio during a river crossing from Hemstreet Park and Mechanicville. The 8 p.m. city council meeting will conclude with the awards and public refreshments.

B M yard facelift under way after state grant
Mechanicville’s freight yard will receive upgrades after a $1.9 million state grant for repairs and modernization.
