District to Improve Water Service Promises Fire Protection Boost
Stanford Heights and Baker Avenue areas are slated for enhanced water service under Colonie’s second Community Development Act plan. Fire Chief Thomas Sowek warns the Agway Petroleum plant across Morris Road, with 130,000 gallons of flammable liquids, will pose a major test for mutual aid pumpers from neighboring districts and the single hydrant nearby. Readings show water flow far below recommended levels at several points, complicating response to potential fires at Mohawk Mall and the Oswald Heck Developmental Center.
