Rudy York Aims to Join Charley Keller in Armed Forces
Rudy York the 1943 AL homerun king said he expects to join rival Charley Keller in the armed services within sixty days. He noted he must pass the physical and that Big League baseball could face a doubtful outlook this year. York, 31 in August, farms in Cartersville Georgia and would leave wife and four children if drafted while Keller enlisted in the Merchant Marine. York played seven Tigers seasons with a 1937 35 homer year and a .315 batting average that year.
