Car occupants overcome by gas fumes in Salem incident
Brown stopped the car when a rear passenger fainted. The rest of the occupants including Delbert Brews, Ruth Brews, Patricia Brews, and Ralph Elwell were violently sick as gas fumes entered from a rusted exhaust pipe. Dr Ward Jenkins treated them at Salem courthouse before release hours later. Sheriff Archie Alexander said fumes likely entered via the trunk and gas exposure prompted the scene.
