Fernandez Appeal Scheduled In Slay Case
Appeals from death sentences for Ray Fernandes and Martha Beck, convicted in August of first degree murder in the death of Albany widow Mrs Janet Fay, are to be heard next month before the Court of Appeals. The pair, held at Sing Sing, were charged with killing Mrs Fay on January 4 1949 at Valley Stream. The death sentence was stayed pending appeal. The court has reassigned counsel for Fernandes and Beck. John M. Minton will represent Fernandes, while Beck has no counsel named yet.

Girl Admits False Holding Claim in Troy Case
DaWitt G Clow faced second degree charges after a 16 year old Albany girl told police she had been kept in his room since Monday. Doris Wayne admitted the accusation was untrue and stated she was not held against her will. The case was referred to the grand jury while another charge may be presented next week. George Wayne, the girl's father, accompanied her to the county medical office.
