Columbus youth Thomas M. J. Fletcher, age 17, served 300 combat hours as an aerial gunner over Europe and North Africa before being retired for age. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters at 16, and now works in a Columbus warplane factory installing 20 mm cannons. His notable raid included the Polesti oil fields in Romania where his Liberator squadron attacked in August 1982.
