The Times Record announces a weekly COINWORD contest open to all except the paper’s employer and relatives. Entries must be completed on the provided plank or an exact facsimile and received by 5 p.m. Tuesday after publication. A $25 prize is awarded to the winner, divisions if multiple correct solutions, and all entries become property of the paper.
The labor relations office recommended unpaid suspension for two Wilton guards after an escape, but the guards appeal, arguing the punishment is too harsh and asking for a chance to explain events. Inmates reportedly fled due to lax surveillance, with one still at large. escape not found until a routine bed check.

Monica Hartman of Glens Falls is named assistant to the director in Skidmore College’s Financial Aids Office. She will liaise with parents and students as about 20 percent of Skidmore students receive college-funded aid. Hartman arrives from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a master's in business and experience managing the university symphony and chamber orchestras.
Mary Funaro will lecture on bio rhythm charts to parapsychology buffs at the Parapsychology Study and Investigation Associates meeting February 11 at 8 p.m. in Saratoga Springs. The group promotes parapsychology information since 1971.
Hoosick Falls police report three suspects charged with first degree robbery after an armed heist at Bunker Hill Country Store on Route 22. Lawrence Gates and Arthur Gates plus a juvenile entered the store with a .32 pistol, fleeing on foot with $124 in cash and two checks. all cash recovered. Suspects arraigned before Village Justice and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail without bail. No injuries reported.
Hoosick Falls Fire Chief says a small fire and heavy smoke at the former Vermont Power Co. plant near North Hoosick Road was caused by demolition activities. The building is being torn down and damage was negligible. Internal combustion from wreckage is cited as the smoke source.
The Colonie Youth Recreation Center will hold its annual roast beef dinner Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Victor $. Sgambato Sr. executive director confirms the event.
Mark Chirasello seven of River Road Eagle Bridge remained in serious condition at Ellis Hospital Schenectady after a sledding accident a week and a half earlier. He collided with a car driven by Steven Moon of Bennington on January 20 as poor visibility from snow banks hindered visibility, according to Washington County Sheriff's Dept.
Glens Falls OTB will open February 21 at 15 South Street offering daily hours 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with four betting windows. County OTB director Anthony Scott notes wagering on nine Aqueduct daytime races and ten Yonkers Raceway nighttime races.
