Labor Bill Seeks to Bind State Laws to Federal Labor Rules
The National Labor Relations Board said the administration’s new labor bill would, in effect, repeat state anti closed shop laws except for purely local enterprises. Board Chairman Paul M. Hornog presented the view to the Senate Labor Committee. He avoided taking a stand for or against the provision linking state laws to federal policy as three states have recently been declared constitutional by the Supreme Court. The hearings on the administration bill to repeal Taft Hartley and replace it with a modified Wagner Act continue. The plan speeds hearings with extended committee sessions to finish by February 10. Secretary of Labor Tobin supports the bill. Cyrus Ching opposes transferring conciliation services back to the labor department.
