North Adams police will issue courtesy tickets to out of state motorists who violate local traffic rules instead of park ing tickets. The new ticket asks "Please don't do it again" and includes a map of the city center showing the city parking lot for safe, free parking.
Mayor Corning released a six page report exonerating Albany police in the death of John Ferrell 45 Mulberry Street found hanging in a First Precinct cell on January 10. He said Ferrell was intoxicated and combative, no marks of violence were found, and death was by his own action. Ferrell’s widow was informed at the Royal Theater.

Sgt John J McNames of Troops 1G State Police in this city was elected president of a new Troop G Civic Organization formed recently. Other officers include Corp J J Buckley vice president Sgt Stephen Hogan treasurer and Trooper George Craig secretary. The group aims not yet announced but historically supports welfare and social activities for members. Deputy Superintendent George M Searle said he knew of such formations and has no objection to proper organization.
New York State Tax Department releases five sample tables to help taxpayers estimate how much they will owe on 1948 earnings. The tables show full rate versus adjusted rates based on potential budget changes. Last year only a portion of the full rate was collected and this year payments are projected to rise. The filing deadline is in April and applies to married couples with no dependents.
