Soviet Occupation Tightens Grip in East Germany
The article describes intensified Soviet control across East Germany with purges of liberal and Christian Democratic Parties, banning of officials, and mandatory loyalty to the SED. Trials are held in secret by “peoples courts,” with deportations for anti-Soviet sympathies and extensive censorship. Private industry suffers under confiscation pressure while loyalty-based ranks determine government employment. The piece cites Leipzig University arrests, two dozen years of hard labor for defendants, and a clampdown on private enterprise amid war-time economic expropriation.
