FT. LEAVENWORTH Kan. James M. Dearlove, son of Mr and Mrs A W Dearlove of Hutchins Road Ballston Spa Route 6, was promoted to lieutenant colonel while assigned to the U S Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. He entered the Army in March 196 and earned a master’s degree in 1970 from Kansas State College. His wife Marsha resides with him at the fort.

Hoosick Falls Police found a lone snowmobile on High Street Sunday at 8 23 a m. They believe it fell from a trailer. Henry Oswald of Hawthorne later located the snowmobile he had lost after traveling about five miles through town. Mary Martin on Center Street reported a tire slash on her car Friday and police continue to investigate.
St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls will close for the rest of the week. Principal Rev. Michael J. McGuire cites conservation of natural gas and fuel oil as the reason.
Propane supply cuts threaten Oak Materials Group divisions Dodge Fluroglas and Circuit Materials in Hoosick Falls with possible production cutbacks by week’s end. Blue Plane Gas Service and Foster Fuel Supply report difficulties and no new accounts. Vermont suppliers show no shortage. Most area firms rely on oil and face no immediate fuel problems.
A Cambridge Central School campus sheltered Stillwater players after a Friday storm halted the junior varsity game. Nurses and six Albany families received refuge as winds subsided and roads opened. Stillwater buses with chains and a four wheel drive escort returned the team home safely.
Niagara Mohawk says no active pipelines reach rural northern Rensselaer County and does not provide natural gas there. The utility notes about 600 small firms once served the area, now merged, leaving residents to rely on propane, electricity, and fuel oil for heat.
A survey of 10 southern Rensselaer County businesses shows only one fully dependent on natural gas for heat. Most have lowered thermostats to 63–65 degrees, with oil or electric heat used elsewhere and planning to reduce hours to save energy. No major customer or employee complaints were reported.
North Colonie Central School District has cut energy use for three years and saves about 42000 dollars yearly.
